In 1947, a few men got together and started what is known as the Circleville Fire Company. Those men were dedicated individuals. Their aim was to make this one of the best fire companies around Orange County. Circleville is still today one of the most respected fire companies in the county.

Chief Walter Szulwach had a small accident this past February in the Bullville Fire District.  Chief Szulwach claims the sun was in his eyes when he rear-ended the car in the front of him.  Chief Joe Moore on the left and Lt. Michael DelVecchio on the right of the Bullville Fire Company, presented Chief Szulwach with the grille and front end of his damaged Chief's vehicle along with a large pair of sunglasses to help him in the future with "sun glare".  See more photos of the Annual Dinner held at Kuhls Highland House.

Circleville Ends Year with a Record 523 Alarms.

The Circleville Fire Company had its last alarm for 2007, New Years Eve at 11:49 PM.

The call was an ambulance assist on Howard Dr. Only two structure fires are included in the alarms that were mostly made up of motor vehicle accidents and rescue calls. The two structures were an abandoned house on Tamms Rd. and a house on Scotchtown Collabar Rd. that was between occupancy. The record 523 alarms was the most in Circleville's 60 year history.

Check out this exciting new book. "When The Bronx Burned" ,

by John J. Finucane.

In his novel, When the Bronx Burned, John Finucane, a retired lieutenant with the New York City Fire Department, tells the fascinating story of the burning of the Charlotte Street area of New York’s South Bronx during the late 1960s and 70s; an era when arson-for-profit drove hundreds of thousands of people from their homes. It’s an intriguing story that shows a New York that most people are completely unfamiliar with. The premise allows for a great deal of conflict and action, for the heroes aren't just fighting flames, they are fighting a brutal gang of arsonists, the slumlords that employ them, and the political machine that permits the scheme to take place.

As Close As It Gets To Going To Hell

**The Deutsche Bank fire that killed Joseph Graffagnino and Robert Beddia on Aug. 18 nearly took the lives of other firefighters as well. One of them was Steve Olsen, 47, a 19-year veteran assigned to Ladder 1 on Duane Street. This is his story, as told to Tribeca Trib editor Carl Glassman
