The following is an introduction to the posting of the MAMAS
Plan. It gives a little idea of what it is about.
Orange County, New York uses a pre-plan called MAMAS in
dispatching alarms. MAMAS stands for Multiple Alarm Mutual Aid System. Each
Fire District or Fire Response Area of the Fire Department is divided into box
numbers. Each box has a pre-plan response to cover that particular area. It
might be a rural area where tankers are needed or a hydrant area where engines
and large diameter hose is needed. boxes within the particular box can be used
for specific buildings where response would be different than a normal
structure; i.e. schools, churches, large warehouses or shopping mall.
This is the Circleville Fire District's MAMAS Plan. It takes
a lot of pressure off the Incident Commander (IC) in getting apparatus to the
scene. All the information is loaded in the computer at Fire Control and
the IC just asks for an alarm assignment on a particular box and the necessary
apparatus is dispatched. For instance, IC tells Fire Control give me my 2nd and
3rd alarm for Box 05-40 and the dispatcher notifies the fire departments
involved in this assignment.
